Christmas in Downtown
Christmas in Downtown is a wonderful time for the community. This event ushers in the Christmas season featuring the traditionallighting of the Christmas trees on the courthouse lawn and at Town Hall.
Candlelight, music and caroling on the Courthouse lawn usually begins around 4:45 with piano students performing holiday classics. SchoolChorussing beginning at 5:30 as the crowd joins in to sing more holiday favorites by candle light all the while awaiting the arrival of Father and Mother Christmas accompanied by “Snowflake Fairies", who will light the Community Christmas tree at 6:00. Entertainmentand light refreshments proceed the lighting of the tree.
The event includes an old fashion tree lot, live “Rein-de-llamas” wandering the streets, and horse drawn carriage rides. The merchants will open for shopping and dining.Kids can make magic food for Santa’s reindeer. Take the chill off in the lobby of the General Morgan Inn where a warm beverage reception may be enjoyed while listening toa hand bell choir and other seasonal classicsafter the tree lighting at 6:00 pm.
The wall of the Dixie Cleaners building will become a giant outdoor movie screen.Bring your lawn chair and blankets to snuggle in and enjoy the movie. Food is available for purchase.
Area Churches and Attractions Open
Area churches will be open as will the, Andrew Johnson Homestead where they will welcome in the holiday with choirs.The Nathanael Greene Museum will be open.
